LSKD is a member of ALFA International, a global network of independent law firms. In celebration of its 40th year, ALFA invited its member law firms to participate in its 40 Days of Givingevent. For 40 days beginning on October 5 to December 1, member firms designate a day where the firm does something to give back to their local community.
In light of everything going on in this world right now, LSKD felt that this was a great opportunity for all of us to come together to do something for children in need. And with Halloween just around the corner, LSKD decided to hold a Halloween Treat Bag event for kids in need on October 14.
LSKD partnered with the Seamen’s Society for Children and Families.Seamen’s Society for Children and Families has a robust history of serving children and families in need in New York City, going back to their origins in 1846 when it was founded to relieve the destitute conditions of the families of seamen. Today, Seamen’s Society is a comprehensive social service agency working in Staten Island and Brooklyn providing the following services to children and families in need: foster care and adoption, medical and mental health services, preventive and intensive preventive services, family day care, domestic violence intervention, educational support and youth programs.
HOW THE EVENT RAN:
Attorneys and staff donated bags of individually wrapped candy/popcorn/pretzels or donated money to purchase treats. To allow anyone who wanted to participate and to avoid large gatherings, we made up the treat bags on both October 8 and 14. The bags were then transported to Seamen’s Society on October 14, allowing enough time for the bags to sit for Covid reasons so they can be distributed to the children for Halloween.
LSKD was able to put together more than 200 treat bags, and thus ensuring that the kids will truly have a Happy Halloween.
