The week of October 7th was Lupus Research Alliance week at LSKD as the LSKD Women’s Initiative went purple.
On Tuesday, October 8, the LSKD Women’s Initiative hosted a lunch for the Lupus Research Alliance. Representatives from the Alliance came in and updated us about what has been going on in the field of research over the past year and answered everyone’s questions about this devastating disease. Once again, the Alliance confirmed that 100% of all money raised goes directly to research; all administrative costs are covered by their board. Every person who donated was entered into a lottery to win items donated by the New York Jets, including a football helmet autographed by wide receiver Quincy Enunwa and tickets to a Jets game.
On Friday, October 11, LSKD’s Women’s Initiative held a “purple” jean’s day. For a minimum donation of $5, employees could wear their “purple” jeans.
On Saturday, October 12, for the second year in a row, LSKD’s Women’s Initiative participated in the Lupus Research Alliance Walk for the Cure for Lupus. This year the weather was beautiful and we joined thousands of people who showed up to support this wonderful cause. We heard some sad stories of people who suffer from this disease, but above it all there was a feeling of hope that someday, with all our help, a cure will be found.
LSKD’s Women’s Initiative is happy to report that, in the last two years, the people of LSKD and their friends and families have raised over $5,000! Thanks everyone for coming together to help find a cure for Lupus!
